Biography

Married to Elizabeth for twenty-six years, Chris and Elizabeth have three children.

He first came to work in the Territory twenty-five years ago. After some time interstate in the 80’s, he and his family returned for good in the early 90’s to once again enjoy living and working in the Top End.

Chris has been the Member for Johnston since 2001 and has been a Minister since November 2002.

He has held a number of portfolios and is currently Minister for Health, Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Minister for Racing, Gaming and Licensing and Minister for Alcohol Policy

Electorate Profile - Johnston

Darwin northern suburbs of Wagaman, Moil, Jingili and parts of Alawa. Bounded by Rapid Creek, McMillans Road, Lee Point Road, Vanderlin Drive and Trower Road, the electorate also crosses Trower Road to inlcude parts of Alawa. Covering 3.8 sq.km, the electorate's name commemorates Commodore Eric Eugene Johnston (1933-99). A former naval officer, he served as Administrator of the Northern Territory 1981-1989. He also had an earlier link with the Territory, serving as Naval Officer Commanding Northern Australia (NOCNA) 1973-76, in which time he survived the destruction of his headquarters by Cyclone Tracy, and was deeply involved in the clean-up operations that followed.
