Malarndirri is a Yanyuwa woman from Borroloola in the Northern Territory. She is Northern Territory born and bred. Born in Katherine in 1970, Malarndirri attended school in Borroloola, Alice Springs and St. Scholasticas in Glebe, Sydney, where she was School Captain in 1988.
She and partner Norm Grogan have two sons, CJ and Grayson.
Malarndirri is a former ABC newsreader and journalist who began her cadetship in 1989.
She has been the Member for Arnhem since 2005 and is currently chair for Statehood Steering Committee
A mainly rural electorate of 137,100 sq km extending from the Stuart Highway east of Katherine along the Roper River to the Gulf of Carpentaria, also including Groot Eylandt off the coast, a spur also extending north through Arnhem Land to the coast at Millingimbi. The electorate mainly consists of aboriginal communities and outstations, along with the mining community of Alyangula on Groot Eylandt. 83% of the electorate's population is of indigenous background.
