Marion is married to David Dalrymple and has three children, Cherise, Richard and Helen. Marion was born in Darwin in 1960 and raised on the Tiwi Islands.
Marion has been the Member for Arafura since 2001 and a Minister since 2002.
She is currently Deputy Chief Minister, Minister for Employment, Education and Training, Minister for Family and Community Services, Minister for Child Protection, Minister for Indigenous Policy, Minister for Arts and Museums, Minister for Women's Policy.
Arafura covers the Tiwi Islands north of Darwin, along with the Coburg Peninsula, Kakadu National Park and western Arnhem Land. Main centres include Nguiu on Bathurst Island, Milikapiti on Melville Island, Maningrida and Gunbalanya in western Arnhem Land, and Jabiru in Kakadu National Park. The electorate covers 201,900 sq.km and three quarters of its population is of indigenous origin. The electorate derives its name from the Arafura Sea, the name first applied by the Dutch in 1827.
