Kon is married to Margaret with two children. He emigrated to Australia from Greece in 1983 and moved to the Darwin in 1993.

Kon first became involved in politics in the mid-seventies during the Greek democracy rallies which led to the removal of the Greek monarchy.

He has been the Member for Casuarina since 2001 and a Minister since Labor was elected to Government.

Kon is noted for his tireless doorknocking and community work.

The outer northern suburbs of Darwin north and west of Trower and Lee Point Roads. It includes the suburbs of Tiwi, Brinkin, Nakara and parts of Alawa. The electorate includes the Brinkin campus of the Northern Territory University, the Casuarina Shopping Centre, and Royal Darwin Hospital. It covers 9.3 sq.km. (ABC elections website)
